✈️ >25% Increase in Canadian Student Enrolments to the UK
Canadian student enrolments in the UK reached 7,840 in 2023, up 24% from 2017. Growth has been steady despite pandemic disruptions, reflecting strong academic ties and interest in UK programmes. The rise aligns with broader international mobility trends, especially in postgraduate study. Amidst newer restrictions on international students UK’s Graduate Route visa, implemented by the Home Office, continues to attract overseas students by allowing post-study work opportunities for up to two years after graduation.
⚕️ NHS Experienced Shortages in Mental Health Professionals
Mental health roles in the NHS have the highest vacancy rate at 8.5%, well above acute specialist positions at 5%. Persistent shortages in mental health professionals is a sign of crisis as the number of people seeking mental health support have been on the rise. Recruitment challenges are compounded by training bottlenecks and high turnover. The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, led by NHS England, aims to address these gaps through expanded training places and targeted retention measures in priority care sectors.
🏭 Trade Uncertainties and Material Costs Challenge US Manufacturers
In 2025, 76.2% of US manufacturers cite trade uncertainties as their top challenge, followed by rising raw material and healthcare costs. Labor shortages remain a pressing issue, with nearly half struggling to attract and retain workers. Ongoing tariff impositions have made procurement of vital components such as semiconductors very challenging. The US Department of Commerce is addressing competitiveness through the Manufacturing USA initiative, supporting innovation, workforce development, and resilience in industrial supply chains.
