## 🏫 Asia has the highest number of international schools globally

Four of the five countries with the highest international K-12 schools are in Asia, which shows the region’s strong demand for global education. Rapid economic growth is expanding [middle class families who seek foreign curricula](https://www.schoolata.com/post/the-growth-of-international-k-12-schools-across-asia?ref=newsletters.qs.com#:~:text=Economic%20Factors%20Driving%20Growth:%20The,higher%20education%20and%20career%20opportunities.) for university mobility. Large expatriate populations also drive school growth across major Asian cities. These trends are likely to reinforce Asia’s leading role in the global international school market.

## **⚕️** Hundreds of millions still face undernourishment

In 2023, over 700M people faced undernourishment. Despite decades of progress, long-term geopolitical conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic have reversed some gains. Climate change is worsening the situation by triggering more frequent and intense extreme weather events. The [2015-2016 El Niño](https://www.fao.org/family-farming/detail/en/c/383116/?ref=newsletters.qs.com), one of the strongest on record, caused massive crop failures across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Addressing these challenges is central to the [UN’s Sustainable Development Goal](https://ourworldindata.org/sdgs/zero-hunger?ref=newsletters.qs.com) to end hunger, emphasising urgent global action for food security.
