✈️ International Student Flow From China to the UK Declined by Nearly 3%

International student enrolment from China to the UK fell nearly 3% between 2022 and 2023, marking a shift as India has now surpassed China as the top source of new entrants. The UK’s ban on most international students bringing dependents has particularly deterred postgraduates, while rising competition from destinations such as the US, Canada, and Australia adds further pressure. Reflecting this trend, Universities UK data reported a 37% year-on-year drop in Chinese undergraduate applications for 2024 entry.

⚕️No. of Nursing and Midwifery Personnel Stagnated in Germany

Germany is facing a growing shortage of nursing and midwifery personnel, with the ratio per 10,000 people slipping from 123 in 2020 to 122 in 2022. The country’s aging population and rising demand for long-term care are key drivers of this gap. To meet the challenge, Germany is actively recruiting nurses from abroad, offering attractive pay even at the entry level. Addressing this shortage remains critical for sustaining its healthcare system.

🏭 EU Automotive Industry Led in Industrial Robot Installation

Europe’s automotive sector has long led industrial robot installations, remaining the region’s largest consumer for decades. Rising competition from Tesla in the US and BYD in China is pushing European automakers to accelerate automation, reinforcing their lead. Beyond automotive, the food and beverage industry is catching up, often surpassing electronics. Driven by strict hygiene standards and the need to address labor shortages, food producers increasingly deploy robots for repetitive tasks like picking, packing, and palletizing, signaling robotics’ growing role across European industries.
