👶 Pre-primary education donations continue to increase

Donor aid refers to funds given by governments or institutions to support education systems in other countries. Donor aid for pre-primary education increased by about $170M from 2010 to 2023. Donor aid to pre-primary education focuses on improving access, quality, and equity in developing nations, with major funders including the World Bank, GPE, and UNICEF. However, donors spend 21 times more on higher education than on pre-primary education. International development agencies are expected to expand early education financing targets.
🍃 Cooling data centers require high electricity consumption

Cooling systems in data centres consume a relatively large share of electricity because servers generate immense heat while processing data continuously. Today, data centres are estimated to consume roughly 415 terawatt hours of electricity, accounting for about 1.5% of global usage. This demand has increased at an average annual rate of 12% over the past five years. Advanced cooling technologies such as liquid cooling or air conditioning are energy-intensive, especially in large-scale facilities handling cloud computing, AI workloads, or high performance computing. As data traffic and server density grow, electricity demand for cooling rises alongside server power use.
🤖 The United States has over 5,000 data centers

The United States leads in the number of data centres, driven by its large technology sector, high demand for cloud services, and concentration of major tech companies. Data centres are facilities used to house servers, storage systems, networking equipment and associated components that are installed in racks and organised into rows. This density drives innovation but also increases electricity demand, putting pressure on energy systems. As a result, it accelerates the adoption of clean energy and efficiency measures in data centre operations to reduce carbon emissions and support sustainable growth in the digital economy.
