At the same time, other countries such as Japan and South Korea are increasingly [recruiting international students](https://www.universityworldnews.com/post.php?story=20240725123005784&ref=newsletters.qs.com) and, along with China's stated goal of [bringing 50,000 American students](https://news.cgtn.com/news/2023-11-16/Xi-says-China-ready-to-invite-50-000-young-Americans-in-5-years-to-boost-exchanges-1oM78dtdYs0/index.html?ref=newsletters.qs.com) to study in the country in the next five years. Notwithstanding the US's potential for much larger numbers of inbound international students, there are signals of increasing intra-regional flows, sparking EdTech firms to focus attention on regions. This week saw Canada-based ApplyBoard, [secure $74M](https://www.edtechreview.in/news/applyboard-secures-cad100m-financing-deal-for-global-expansion/?ref=newsletters.qs.com) to expand operations into Europe and Asia.
