✈️ Steady Growth Of International Students in Malaysia

The number of international students entering Malaysia has seen a significant surge, climbing from 81,953 in 2019 to 128,907 in 2024. This consistent upward trend indicates Malaysia's increasing appeal as a global higher education destination. This rise aligns with the national goal of becoming a regional education hub, as evidenced by the strong application numbers from Chinese students. The growth is supported by the Malaysian Higher Education Development Plan 2025-2035, implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education, which aims to attract 250,000 international students by 2025.

🍃 Geothermal Power in the US Exceeded 16TWh

Geothermal power generation increased steadily from 15.78 TWh in 2013 to 16.46 TWh in 2023. This growth is being driven by new Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) technology, which utilizes the transferable skills of the oil and gas workforce for drilling and subsurface expertise. However, geothermal power lags substantially behind wind and solar in the US renewable energy mix. The US Department of Energy (DOE) implementing the Enhanced Geothermal Shot to reduce EGS costs by 90% by 2035 is a policy to uplift this trend.

🏭 Google Data Centers Drive Rising Water Use

Google’s annual water withdrawals rose from 2,500M gallons in 2016 to 8,653M gallons in 2023, more than tripling in seven years. This reflects the surge in data center and AI infrastructure demand, with 2023 marking the sharpest yearly increase. Public concerns over the environment and social impact of the increasing scale of data centers have been mounting. The US Environmental Protection Agency is developing stricter data center water-use reporting to improve transparency and conservation.
