🏫 UK State School Teacher Shortages Tripled in a Decade
Teacher vacancies in England’s state-funded schools have spiked over the past decade, rising more than fivefold from 452 in 2010 to a peak of 2,802 in 2023. Though vacancies fell by 22% to 2,173 in 2024, levels remain critically high. This steep rise underscores long-term staffing pressures driven by rising pupil numbers, workload, and burnout. Ofsted’s 2024 report warned of persistent retention struggles. In response, the Department for Education is expanding its Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy.
🍃 US Accounted for Nearly 25% of Global CO2 Emissions
As of 2024, the United States accounts for 24% of global cumulative CO2 emissions since 1750, the largest national share. Global CO2 emissions have risen significantly in recent years, driven by post pandemic industrial recovery, expanding energy demand, and continued reliance on fossil fuels in fast growing economies. While emerging nations are now major emitters, legacy emissions continue to shape global climate negotiations and equity debates. However, Trump administration’s renewed withdrawal from the Paris Agreement in 2025 threatens to reverse progress, weakening global coordination and slowing emissions reduction momentum.
🤖 Software and Info Services Lead AI Industry Spending
In 2025, the software and information services industry in the Asia/Pacific led AI spending at $36.8B, far outpacing other sectors. The figures show AI’s deep integration into digital services, where applications range from generative tools to cybersecurity and automation. AI adoption in Asia is accelerating as governments and businesses invest heavily in infrastructure, talent development, and regulatory frameworks to maintain global competitiveness. Regional adoption is supported by national AI strategies, such as Singapore’s refreshed National AI Strategy 2.0 launched in 2023.
