US student mobility to Latin America is set for strong growth
US student numbers to LATAM are forecast to rise sharply by 2030.
Hello,
The US is set to remain Latin America’s largest source market for international students, with QS Global Student Flows forecasting particularly strong growth through to 2030.
US student numbers to LATAM could rise by more than 25,000
QS forecasts the number of US students studying in Latin America to increase from around 41,000 in 2024 to 68,000 by 2030, representing a CAGR of 8.7%.

That would reinforce the US as the region’s largest source market, even as much of Latin America’s international student mobility continues to be driven by students moving within the region itself.
The wider LATAM market is expanding too
Overall, Latin America is projected to host more than 500,000 international students by 2030, with Argentina, Mexico and Brazil expected to account for more than 60% of inbound students.
For institutions looking to attract more students from outside the region, the new Student Mobility and Motivation: Latin America report highlights opportunities around English-language provision, student support and the pre-candidate experience.
Student priorities are becoming more practical
Growth alone will not guarantee recruitment success. LATAM-bound students increasingly weigh academic quality alongside visa access, post-study opportunities, employability, networking and language development when choosing where to study.
