💼 Global labour informality nears 60%

Informal employment accounts for nearly 60% of global work in 2024, showing that most workers remain outside formal labour systems. Informal employment arises due to a combination of necessity, economic structure, and regulatory factors. It is generally driven by two main perspectives, exclusion (involuntary) and exit (voluntary/strategic). High informality limits access to stable wages and workplace protections, especially for women and young people. As economies digitise and industrialise, governments are expanding registration systems and social insurance under the UN Decent Work Agenda to encourage formal job creation.

⚕️ Success in meeting family planning goals

Eastern and South Eastern Asia have approached 90% adoption of modern family planning methods. Long standing public health systems that integrate family planning into primary care and community clinics. Governments in the region have invested heavily in affordable contraception, and digital health services that improve awareness and access. In the developing regions, large scale outreach programmes and NGO partnerships have expanded services in both urban and rural areas. Together, these efforts have normalised reproductive health as part of basic healthcare.

🤖 AI skilled employees in the energy sector had the second highest wage growth

Energy recorded the second highest wage rise for AI skilled workers, as renewables and grid operators increasingly rely on AI for forecasting demand and improving energy efficiency. As energy systems become more digital and climate targets become stricter, firms compete for workers who can combine technical and data skills. This trend shows that AI is no longer limited to technology firms but is becoming central to the future workforce across traditional industries.
