๐Ÿ‘ถ Western Australia Preschool Enrolments Double the National Average

Preschool enrolment in Australia showed considerable variation across states in 2024, with Western Australia leading the states and amounting to nearly 2 times more enrolments than the national average. Moreover, this highlights uneven access to early childhood education among different states. These disparities underline the importance of targeted interventions, such as the National Quality Agenda for Early Childhood Education and Care, which aims to standardise preschool access and quality across all states and territories.

โš•๏ธ West and Central Africa Recorded the Highest Under-Five Mortality Rate

The highest under-five mortality rate was recorded in West and Central Africa, way higher than the global average. Infant mortality is high in Africa primarily due to limited access to quality healthcare, poverty, poor sanitation, lack of maternal education, and preventable infections. These outcomes reinforce the urgency of UNICEF-led child survival programmes and national implementation of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness policy to reduce preventable deaths.

๐Ÿค– The US Accounted for >60% of Notable AI Models

In 2024, the United States led global AI model development, producing nearly 50 notable AI models. France, with three models, illustrates the emerging yet limited presence of European AI innovation. The USโ€™s leadership reflects strong funding, advanced infrastructure, and emerging talent pools, driving research and commercialization. Sustaining this advantage will depend on continued investment in AI initiatives and collaborations between universities and private sector firms to accelerate development across industries.
