🎓 Higher education institutions in China continue to expand

China’s ten leading regions accounted for more than 1,390 regular higher education institutions in 2023, with Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Henan hosting the largest numbers. The concentration reflects the need to serve large provincial populations and expanding demand for skilled graduates across manufacturing, technology, and service industries. Interestingly, Beijing and Shanghai do not rank among the top ten by quantity because they specialise in elite, research intensive universities, while populous provinces require a greater volume of institutions to support access. China’s Double First-Class Initiative, led by the Ministry of Education, aims to strengthen university quality and research competitiveness nationwide.
⚕️ Estonia’s antidepressant consumption increased by threefold

Antidepressant use in Estonia more than tripled from 2010 to 2024. The steady increase reflects greater diagnosis of mental health conditions, improved access to treatment, and reduced stigma surrounding psychological care. Rising workplace pressures and population ageing have increased demand for mental health support services. Estonia’s Mental Health Action Plan 2023-2026, implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs, aims to strengthen prevention, treatment access, and mental wellbeing across the population.
🏠North America topped global metal additive market

North America accounted for over 40% of the global metal additive manufacturing market in 2025. This is due to strong investment in aerospace, defence, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing, where 3D-printed metal components improve precision and reduce production times. Metal additive manufacturing also supports sustainability by reducing material waste, lowering inventory requirements, and enabling lighter components that improve energy efficiency in transport and industry. The Manufacturing USA program, supported by the Department of Commerce, promotes advanced manufacturing technologies including additive manufacturing to strengthen industrial competitiveness and resource efficiency.
