💼 Higher education in Poland decreased by over 11%

Poland’s higher education enrolment declined by over 11% as of 2024. The earlier decline reflected demographic contraction, and outward migration among younger workers and students across Eastern Europe. Recent growth has been supported by rising international student inflows and stronger demand for technical degrees. Poland’s Integrated Skills Strategy 2030, led by the Ministry of Education and Science, aims to align higher education with labour market and innovation needs.

Asia recorded nearly 1.3M diabetes deaths in 2023, far exceeding every other region and accounting for most global fatalities linked to the disease. The scale reflects ageing populations, rapid urbanisation and rising obesity and processed food consumption across densely populated economies including China and India. Expanding middle-class consumption and limited early diagnosis in lower income communities have increased long-term health complications and treatment pressures. India’s National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases aims to strengthen diabetes screening and early intervention nationwide.

🏭 Fossil fuel consumption driven by Asia

Asia recorded fossil fuel consumption of 82,613 TWh in 2024, more than triple Europe’s level and exceeding the combined total of North America and Europe. Expanding semiconductor fabrication, and industrial construction across China, India, and Southeast Asia continue to drive large scale fossil fuel demand despite renewable energy growth. The Made in China 2025 strategy, led by the Chinese government, continues supporting advanced manufacturing and industrial capacity expansion.
